Frequently Asked Questions

Antique Appliance Cleaning: How do I clean the exterior of my Antique appliances? For Nickel trims, use Maas, Autosol or any other polish recommended for nickel. Antique Copper trims can be cleaned with soap and water and a soft cloth. (Do not use abrasive cleaners on nickel or copper trims.) Clean painted surfaces with soap and water and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry. Apply an automotive wax such as Turtle Wax to keep them shiny. For ceramic cooktops, use a cooktop cleaner such as Cerama Bryte or Weiman.

Antique Range Ignitors: How do I stop my ignitors from sparking continuously? If ignitors won’t stop sparking for a NEW install, the outlet is probably not wired correctly. Have an electrician check the wiring.

If ignitors won’t stop sparking and it’s not a new install, verify whether there has been a spill or boil-over. If so, remove the grates and burner caps and allow the ignitors to dry completely for 24 hours. This process can be sped up using a hair dryer. Check that there is no lint or food debris on the ignitors. Ignitors can be cleaned with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, brushing very gently in a circular motion.

Antique Range Exhaust Filters: How, and how often, should I clean my exhaust filters? The mesh filter cage can be cleaned with soap and water. The charcoal filter should be changed approximately every six months, depending on use.

If the clock is flashing after a power surge or outage, 1) Press the clock button and set the clock, 2) If that doesn’t work, press and hold the Lock / Stop button, 3) If that doesn’t work, turn off the power to the range at the breaker for 15 minutes, turn the breaker back on, then set the clock, 4) If that doesn’t work, call Elmira at 800-295-8498 for further assistance.
