I have a 2 year old 11 cu ft model 1951 Retro Fridge which has just lost any ability to cool. Imagine my surprise to learn that the fridge insides are actually Danby (a 11 cu ft Danby fridge runs about $565 at WalMart). I paid about $2500 for said fridge and, while it is a lovely yellow retro fridge (a work of art, in fact), I do not believe that the look is worth $2K – especially when it dies shortly after the warranty expires. I also have a matching stove and am wondering what is inside it, and if it is of comparable quality to the fridge. If one pays a high end price for an appliance, is it not reasonable to assume that the appliance has high end parts?
I would LOOOOVE to talk to y’all about your fridges! Our 1.5 year old Whirlpool fridge just bit the dust for good, so we’re in the market for something new (and more reliable!)
