As the landscape around us starts to turn red, yellow and orange, trees start to lose their leaves, nights begin to get longer, temperatures begin to drop, baseball season comes to an end and the start of the football season begins, we know it is surely fall!
There are many reasons to love Autumn, but our favorite reasons revolve around the wonderful, seasonal recipes that taste so good! Lots of fruits and vegetables come into season this time of year, such as apples, beets, broccoli, celery, cranberries, eggplant, figs, grapes, green beans, pears and sweet potatoes, just to name a few. What could be better than cooking up your favorite appetizers, comfort dinners, and yummy deserts? Cooking it all on a wood-burning cookstove, of course!
The Fireview is a high-efficiency, air-tight wood-burning cookstove that is perfect for your home. It serves as a high-output room heater, a cooking appliance and an attractive fire-viewing woodstove. With an optional water jacket, it is also a source of hot water, using renewable resources. If you want even more cooking versatility, you can add the optional side gas burners.
Wood-burning cookstoves offer families the best of both worlds: excellent cooking and an antique, right-at-home feel. They keep utility costs down and they are a reliable source for cooking, even when the power goes out. With summer coming to an end, now is the perfect time to fall in love with a wood-burning cookstove!
Tell us, have you tried cooking on a wood-burning cookstove?
We at Elmira Stoveworks are very active social media users, and love learning about new growing trends. Our favorite trend over the past year is Pinterest, now the third most popular social media site in the United States, only behind Facebook and Twitter. Why are we so excited about Pinterest? This site, boasting 13 million users, has allowed us to further connect with our fans as well as given us a place to share our love for all things retro, kitchen designs featuring our products, and things that inspire us, all in one place.
If you aren’t familiar with the new phenomenon, here is how it works. Users who sign up for the site are able to create ‘pin boards,’ much like bulletin boards, where they can post ‘pins.’ Pins are links, which show up as pictures, articles, ideas, videos, and products. Other users are then able to repost these pins to their own boards. Another important component is the “follow” feature. This aspect is similar to Twitter or Facebook, where users can see what others have posted, comment and share as long as they have been connected on the site.
Why has Pinterest become so popular? The average user spends over an hour and a quarter daily on the site. By “pinning,” users can expect to find thousands upon thousands of easy DIY projects, home décor ideas, recipes, fashion, products, to name a few. Additionally, the site allows users to see what interests their followers and those who follow them have. Connecting users based on similar interests is the back bone of this social phenomenon. We especially love connecting with users who like retro and antique kitchens featuring Elmira products.
Unless you’ve been living under a muted-tone rock this year, you’ve seen the bright tangerine and orange accents gracing the front of every single home magazine. After all, this year’s Pantone Color of the Year is Tangerine Tango!
Prominent designers from Jonathan Adler to Hermès are going crazy for this hot hue because of its versatile warm color which keeps an interior citrusy in the spring, vibrant in the summer, reminiscent of crisp leaves in autumn, and warm and cozy during the winter. This chameleon color really is perfect for all four seasons.
This refreshing tone can be paired with a variety of colors. Tangerine makes a great accent when paired with white, cream, blue, brown or grey. Some of the most popular pairings among interior designers this year have been tangerine with khaki and off-white, tangerine with blue (robin’s egg, turquoise or navy) and off-white, tangerine with brown and cream, and tangerine with jewel tones.
Maybe you aren’t quite ready to bring such a bold statement into your kitchen, and that is perfectly understandable. Add a pop of color to your kitchen with some orange place settings, hand towels, or a vase of orange hued flowers.
Give your kitchen even more personality this year with a customizable Northstar refrigerator from Elmira. Whether you like to accent with bold colored appliances, or limit the vibrant colors to your kitchen accessories, Elmira provides you custom color options for every personality. Each order is custom made just for you.Use the color as a way to highlight the areas of your kitchen (or other rooms of your home) that you want noticed. This gives you an accent that isn’t overwhelming, but adds something warm and welcoming to the existing pieces in your home. Adding hued pillows to a couch or cushions to your kitchen chairs gives a room a pop without overpowering.
Spring is here, and that means color. Lots and lots of color. Flowers are blooming, pastel-colored spring clothes are reappearing, and Elmira has spring-colored Northstar appliances to match!
Buttercup Yellow, Robin’s Egg Blue, Flamingo Pink, Bisque and Mint Green are the soft colors consumers can go for this spring. They can provide a feast for the eyes, and the appliances will help you prepare a feast for your taste buds as well.
In addition to these colors, Northstar appliances from Elmira Stove Works offer custom-color options, with which homeowners can customize appliances to match or complement any décor.
Spring is all about fresh style, and the latest trends from the runway to the home. No design trend is fresher today than “retro.” For the enthusiast who must have everything, Northstar retro-styled appliances offer hot looks and high technology. Complete with rounded corners, chrome trims and trendy colors, no aspect has been overlooked. Each appliance is custom-built to the specifications of each consumer’s order.
Classic meets chic is a design motif we’re seeing for this season. Taking traditional design and livening it up with hot spring colors. This picture is the perfect example of this. Notice the robin’s egg blue colors, buttercup yellows and light mint greens, as well as various shades of pink. Elmira has captured this spring color palette with their array of Northstar colors.
So while you’re doing your spring shopping and/or cleaning, keep the colorful Northstar appliances in mind as a way to give your kitchen a fresh spring look.
Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen is a TV series airing on the Cooking Channel, and based on the hugely popular online series. This is not your typical, run-of-the-pepper-mill cooking show, so if you want to learn how prepare a traditional meal, this is probably not where you would tune in. In fact, there is not a whole lot about this program that is traditional: think in terms of a mash-up of a fast-paced, highly entertaining cooking show, comedy routine and social commentary. With Nadia, you never know what’s coming next, both in terms of the show and great recipes!
Nadia Giosia is a gourmet chef and a bodacious comedian who shows her viewers recipes that are way outside of the (microwave) box. If you want to throw a uniquely themed party or try something off the wall to get your guests’ attention, tune in here for ideas. Like the show, the recipes and the food you can create with them are bound to lead to some entertaining dinner-time conversations.
How about some Drunken’ Spaghetti? It’s spaghetti with a “Bitchin’” twist, cooked with red wine, anchovies and crushed chili peppers. She also has recipes for I Want To Marry You Cookies and “Break-up Brunches.”
Her kitchen is uniquely themed and features an array of Elmira’s Northstar appliances in Candy Red, including a range, wall oven and refrigerator. The fun, unique Elmira Northstar appliances fit Nadia’s personality and add flare to her already funky kitchen. The kitchen is also crammed with quirky knick-knacks and adorned with miss-matched cabinet door knobs. Miss G also dresses to match her kitchen in ever-changing styles. One day, she may have on a bright red dress with stiletto heels and the next, overalls and a t-shirt.
If you enjoy going against the flow and getting away from the mundane, this show is for you. Also, the Elmira appliances bring a splash of nostalgia to Giosia’s kitchen; a feeling that is not often found in today’s busy world.
Nadia is joined on the show by other quirky characters, Ben Shaouli, Peter Koussioulas and Bart Rochon. Together, the cast brings viewers laughs, fun ideas and great recipes. Giosia also has a two cookbooks published, Bitchin’ Kitchen Cookbook: Rock Your Kitchen- And Let the Boys Clean Up the Mess, and Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen: Cookin’ For Trouble.
Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen is based out of Canada; and by coincidence, so is Elmira Stove Works. The two Canadian “products” complement each other and pride themselves on being special and unique.
Giosia of course uses her Northstar range and wall oven like any other. The appliances may look old, but they provide Nadia the ability to bake, boil, steam, broil and simmer her new age cuisine in style, in every episode.
You can catch Nadia G’s Bitchin’ Kitchen on the Cooking Channel Wednesdays at 10 p.m. To find out more about Elmira’s Northstar appliances or other Elmira appliances, please visit www.elmirastoveworks.com.
Love to eat, hate to cook? This is a plight that affects many of us. There are some solutions that we think can help solve this dilemma and make cooking more fun for everyone.
Idea 1: Have a cooking contest with your family. When everyone pitches in, it is not as much work and making it a contest will get everyone more excited about cooking dinner; especially the kids if there is a prize involved.
Idea 2: Do not let cooking stress you out. Think of it as experimental, and do not try to be perfect. As with all other skills, cooking takes time to master. Give yourself a break and take it slow. Even if you do not think your dish is perfect, your friends and family will appreciate the effort. Also, no one is a tougher critic than you. Remember, you cannot become Emeril overnight.
Idea 3: Try creative, fun and new dishes. Do not let yourself get bogged down with the ordinary. Once a week, look up a recipe that looks tasty and is visually appealing. Making this new, unique meal will give you a sense of accomplishment. An easy way to find new recipes is to join Pinterest. This social website provides thousands of ideas to jazz up your cooking style. If you are really feeling your creative side kick in, take a picture of each new dish you create and make a dual-purpose scrapbook and cook book.
Idea 4: Strike a deal. Okay, so maybe the cooking is not so bad, but what about the clean-up? Make a deal with your significant other, kids or roommate that requires them to clean-up if you cook, and vice-versa. It is only fair that if your house mates get to indulge in your delicious hard work, they should have to share the work by doing the dishes.
Idea 5: Spice up your kitchen with some cool gadgets. If you are able to, treat yourself to some colorful pots and pans or some new appliances. How can you not have fun cooking with a bright red or blue retro oven? Or using a stove with an antique look and feel? Now you have two reasons to throw a dinner party, to showcase your new Elmira appliances and to show off your new found love of cooking!
January is the perfect month for a fresh start. You have perhaps made some sort of New Year’s resolution; maybe one that involves changing your eating habits. If you need a little extra motivation to begin cooking healthier meals, a new kitchen might do the trick.
Making a resolution to eat healthier is pretty common, but what about doing something special, exciting and different in 2012? A kitchen makeover can do exactly that. Of course, anyone would be excited about remodeling his or her kitchen, but what is so different about it? Well, you can add refreshing, statement-making retro or antique Elmira appliances to your kitchen instead of the same old basic white, black and stainless steel appliances that everyone else has. Talk about conversation pieces!
Elmira has many different style and color options, so you won’t have any trouble finding appliances that coordinate with your cabinets and countertops.
For those of you that own a lake house or are considering purchasing one in the future, nothing would make your lakeside cabin feel cozier than an Elmira antique wood-burning style stove. These stoves are modeled after appliances made in the 1890’s and are available in wood-burning, gas or electric. They also have the option of four burners or six burners. Other features include a “feather touch” electric control panel, self-cleaning ovens, convection cooking, warmer, sealed gas burners, smooth-top electric burners and “Ultra Temp” cast elements.
Guys, if you are not quite sold on the idea of such unique appliances taking residence in your kitchen, what about a Northstar refrigerator that has a built-in “through-the-door” beer keg dispenser? All you have to do is add your favorite keg of beer; perfect for your upcoming Super Bowl party.
All of this probably seems like a great idea, but there is always the challenge of financing a full kitchen remodel. However, just one or two new appliances can give your kitchen an entirely new and fresh feel. The first time you entertain with your new appliances, you will know that you have achieved your New Year’s goal of doing something special and different.
Elmira Stove Works, industry-leading manufacturer of “circa-1850” and retro 1950s appliances, continues its commitment to unique designs partnered with high quality appliances. Moving into 2012, Elmira is introducing three new products to accompany its broad selection of antique and retro appliances, including the Northstar Wall Oven, Northstar Microwave and Northstar Double-Drawer Refrigerator Panel Kit.
“These new products allow our customers a lot more flexibility in terms of how they cook with our appliances and how they fit our retro styling into the specific layout of their kitchen or bar area,” stated Brian Hendrick, Vice-President of Elmira Stove Works.
Retailing for $2995, the Northstar Wall Oven offers 4.1 cubic feet of capacity, electric self-cleaning, convection, and can be installed in wall cabinets or an island. The new Northstar Microwave model retails for $699. This new product is 33 percent larger (inside) and 20 percent more powerful than its previous model. Although it does not have the convection and grill features, the microwave comes with plenty of options including sensor reheat, Inverter® turbo defrost, and a quick-minute button to make cooking a breeze. The 1948 model double-drawer fridge panel kit fits the KitchenAid double-drawer units, and retails at $499. The KitchenAid units can be two refrigerator drawers, two freezer drawers or a combination of one fridge and one freezer drawer. The double-drawer freezer/fridge is ideal for bar space or extra kitchen capacity.
All three products are available in the nine different colors of the Northstar palette. In addition, for a personalized look, customers can custom-color any Northstar appliances to suit their own tastes.
The Northstar Collection also offers two full sized retro-styled refrigerators, plus an apartment / bar sized model; ranges in gas, electric and dual fuel; splashbacks, microwaves, dishwasher panels, and range hoods. With chrome trim, bright colors and smooth lines, the Northstar line instantly creates a retro transformation offering a quick and easy remodeling option. These nostalgic appliances offer 21st century functionality and convenience. And, despite their “retro” styling, their beautiful lines and colors fit beautifully into any contemporary kitchen.

In our current world of high technology and fancy cutting-edge solutions, it can be easy to forget about the simpler joys in life. With fall slowly creeping in, it is the perfect time to sit back and enjoy some of the small comforts that come with colder weather…like the warmth of a wood-burning cookstove.
Despite the overabundance of modern features on today’s gas and electric ranges, the wood-burning cookstove has become relevant again with the trend of going green. With the environment in mind, wood-burning cookstoves can serve not only as a heating source, but as a cooking source, a recreational fire-viewing stove and a source of hot water. Don’t forget the added perk of a lower gas bill!
This is why Elmira Stove Works’ choose to create the Fireview Wood-Burning Cookstove, which provides functionality with character. There is no sacrifice of style and no guilt of using non-renewable fuel to generate heat in the cottage, cabin, ski chalet or even main home. Elmira has great confidence in the future of renewable energy and the Fireview a perfect match for the latest “go green” trends.
Elmira offers the Fireview in three models, including a 36 inch wood-burning Model 1840, 48 inch Model 1842-0 with a second warmer on the right and a work surface above, and 48 inch Model 1842-G with second warmer and two 11,000 BTU propane burners on the right side. It even has optional hot water “jackets” that will produce up to ten gallons of hot household water per hour.
So as the fall leaves begin to settle in, wrap yourself up in a warm blanket and enjoy the comforts of the wood-burning cookstove. It’s the perfect way to add aesthetic appeal to your kitchen while capturing the charm of the simpler times of the past.
